[WHAT WE DO]

AN INTEGRATIVE, PERSON-CENTRED APPROACH TO PHYSIOTHERAPY & WELLNESS

WHAT IS PERSON-CENTRED CARE?

Person-centred care in physiotherapy is an approach that focuses on the individual needs, preferences, and values of the patient. It emphasises collaboration and partnership between the physiotherapist and the patient to ensure that care is tailored to the specific circumstances of the patient.

Person-centred care aims to enhance patient satisfaction, improve treatment outcomes, and promote a positive therapeutic relationship. It is particularly important in managing chronic conditions, rehabilitation, and long-term health and wellness.

8 KEY ELEMENTS OF PERSON-CENTRED CARE

  • Treatment plans are customized based on the patient's unique condition, goals, lifestyle, and preferences. The physiotherapist takes into account the patient's personal circumstances and medical history.

  • The patient is actively involved in the planning and decision-making process regarding their treatment. The physiotherapist provides information and options, and together they decide on the best course of action.

  • The physiotherapist shows understanding, compassion, and respect for the patient's experiences and feelings. This helps build a trusting and supportive relationship.

  • Clear, open, and honest communication is crucial. The physiotherapist ensures that the patient understands their condition, the proposed treatments, and any potential risks or benefits.

  • The patient is encouraged and supported to take an active role in their own care. This includes educating the patient about their condition and how to manage it, as well as encouraging self-management and adherence to treatment plans.

  • The physiotherapist considers the whole person, including physical, emotional, social, and psychological aspects, rather than just focusing on the specific injury or condition.

  • Care is coordinated with other healthcare providers and services as needed to ensure continuity and comprehensive care. This may involve working with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, and other professionals.

  • The physiotherapist seeks feedback from the patient regarding their experience and outcomes and uses this information to improve the quality of care provided.

Through thorough analysis we can achieve the specific diagnosis. With skilled treatment as well as the prescription and guidance of an individualised rehabilitation program specific to you, we aim to have you back thriving as soon as possible, and stronger than ever to help you perform at your best.

  • Chronic pain is defined as persistent pain lasting longer than 3 months. That is, pain exceeding the normal time that tissue should take to heal. Chronic pain is complex and considered to be multifactorial as an individual’s pain experience is influenced by biological factors such as genetics and underlying medical conditions as well as psychological factors including stress, anxiety and depression. Furthermore, social factors such as social support, cultural beliefs and socioeconomic status can impact how individual’s experience and manage chronic pain.

Physiotherapists at cntrespace utilize an integrative, person-centred approach, practicing in alignment with the biopsychosocial model. Through this lens, clinicians can understand and address an individual’s contributing factors leading to comprehensive and effective management of chronic pain.
